Kakuna Wars: Chapter Eight
Chapter Eight: A Flock Of Wolves
Bill's Cubone skin bristled, and he dropped the washcloth he was holding straight into the basin of bathwater. "HIM?" he finally said, his eyes never leaving the Abra's partner. "You brought HIM into...? He's a Gatekeeper! He works for Lt. Surge!"
"No," the Abra said quietly but forcefully. "He works for everyone. Bill, this is Piku. Piku, Bi--"
"We've met," the Raichu interrupted, noticing Bill's look of alarm. "I don't know what the rest of the Gatekeepers have done to you, Bill, but I'm willing to bet it has to do with three-quarters of this blasted organization being a flock of Midnight Lycanroc. I'm not sure how it happened, but somehow the very same organization meant to keep the nasties out of our little corner of paradise only succeeded in keeping them in it."
Bill crossed his arms and looked down his nose at Surge's Raichu. "As Watson said on laundry day: no sheet, Sherlock. Aren't you the founder of the Gatekeepers? How di

Chapter Seven: The Need To Beat
Kakuna Wars: Chapter Seven
“MISTY!” Abe yelled into the Cerulean gym. “I’m here to talk -- to challenge you!”
The red-haired gym leader stared him down curiously. “Oh? Like you came to ‘talk to’ Brock about the… what was it again? The “Wartortle” that’s really a Vaporeon wearing the shell of the Squirtle it murdered? Only wait, you didn’t tell him any of that, you just beat up his Pokemon to get his badge because those damn Voices in your head wouldn’t shut up until you did. And even then, they wouldn’t shut up.”
Abe pulled back in surprise. “Ma’am…?”
“Oh, don’t act that surprised, kid. You’re a history nut, right? You’re not the first one on the planet to get Voice Syndrome -- I think that’s what the other guy called it? Invisible eldritch spirits whispering in your head?”
The Voices took offense at this, buzzing furi

How did you let this happen?"

Piku blushed in embarrassment. "Well... technically I founded it, but official league rules mean that my human trainer is responsible for all legal aspects of the Gatekeepers foundation. Which would be worth a lot more if he wasn't still the same gullible sap that got his entire ship captured by the Almians and their mutant mutts."

"Yeah, about that," Bill put in. "I've been told that reports on when and how the war started were, to put in mildly, unreliable. And I've been told this by an apparently more pure-hearted version of ME, which I'm not even certain is as pure-hearted as his one last message tried to make him seem. Long story short, the message told me to contact this world's Brock. He hasn't been corrupted too, has he?"

An uncomfortable look passed between Help and Piku. "Should you tell him, or...?"

Piku took a deep breath. "You may have noticed that Sabrina... isn't. She's not Sabrina, that is. She's a Boneka model, something developed by the Robopon Corporation for the purpose of impersonating Sabrina. We're not quite sure how many Gatekeepers have been replaced like this, but..."

Bill could take a hint. "Brock's been acting funny recently, hasn't he?"

"He's stopped hitting on the ladies," Help answered. "Anyone with half a brain can tell that's not a good sign."

"Quick question," Bill asked. "How recent was this? Because if I find out it only started after Misty turned me into a Cubone, I swear to Dome I'll--"

"It was before you came," Help interrupted. "The Gatekeepers were suspicious that Brock was still teaching the ways of the Elder Gems, the Seelie Court of living stone that dwelt upon Mt. Moon. They recently arrested a man named Seymour for living among Clefairy and worshiping the Moon Stone."

"Can't say I blame them on that last part," Bill muttered under his breath. "You deify a bunch of rockheads and eventually you start acting like them."

"Do you not agree that religious freedom is important?"

"Look, in my world we have a saying: 'Your rights end at the tip of my nose.' The problem is that a good many people who say that are sticking their nose tips into other people's nose tips and expecting the other people to make way for them. If more people said 'My rights end at the tip of your nose,' then we'd have considerably less strife around, religious or otherwise." Bill paused for breath. "But when said rights include the right to be an idiot and encourage others to be idiots, on the emotional level I find it hard to think rationally on the side of the idiots. Plus I'm not a fan of rock worship, for reasons I would rather not explain."

There was an awkward silence.

"Well, THAT was unnecessarily frank and moralizing," Piku said bluntly. "Can we get back to the part where Brock is missing and foul play is suspected?"
Kakuna Wars: Chapter Eight
I didn't really have a good place to end this one, but thought I'd post it anyway. Even though we're in the middle of another run, this story has been languishing in Creative Purgatory for far too long, and I needed to get back to it sometime.

The Voices took offense at this, buzzing furiously. Up A GUYS WE NEED TO BET MISTY BloodTrail PogChamp and other suggestions that were far too horrible for Abe to dwell on.

“The actions of the Voices started the Great Carbuncle War,” Misty went on. “Although they called it something considerably worse. Kanto and Almia fought viciously, and lucky for us, the Voices chose Kanto’s side. I heard them briefly, during the Blitzle-krieg operation to sink Almia’s battleships. I think part of them stuck with me, and their powers never really went away.” She paused. “Not that I mind, not strictly. After all, they… tell me things.”

“T-tell you things?” Abe asked.

“Oh, yes -- quite interesting things. For instance, you recently beat Nugget Bridge, and refused the offer to join Team Rocket. Such a good boy you are!” she mocked condescendingly. “Except that they also told me that your little fire snake was the one that killed and ate that poor Oddish back on Route One. Murder, cannibalism, and food poisoning! You’ll be lucky if either of you last another day.”

“She’s a Charizard, not a snake!” Abe yelled above the din of the Voices in his head. Normally this wouldn’t be necessary, but he could tell, somehow, from Misty’s crazed expression, that the sounds of chaos were just as loud for her as they were for him.

“Same difference,” Misty taunted. “Nothing personal… to you, kid. Your Voices, though… they don’t like me. And the feeling is mutual. And I’m getting a strong sense that you defeating me is going to be good for them and not so good for me.”

Abe found himself nodding despite himself, since she wasn’t wrong, not really. He wasn’t honestly sure what exactly the Voices wanted out of him, but judging from their eagerness to do unspeakable things to the Gym Leader, he wasn’t going to guess benevolence.

“So, what’s it going to be, Champ?” Misty asked. “Beat, or get beaten?” She pulled out a Poke Ball, releasing a Lapras. “All right, Princess. Go get ‘em.”

GUYS WE NEED TO BEAT -- HELIXDOMEIT THAT’S STROOOOOONG!!!!!
Chapter Seven: The Need To Beat
It's baaaaack! Maybe not the time or place for it, but heck with it, this has waited far too long! Let's go back to political drama, Machivellian plotting, and taking way too long to catch up on the six days of Anniversary Red that I missed!

And also because if I didn't continue it at some point, people might forget Kakuna Wars even existed.

Fakemon concepts: Wakir, the Dream Eater Pokemon
Evolves from Hypno when... ???

The first concept was based on the idea that Drowzee is steadily trying to become more human. Thus the clothes and the hair.

The second concept has aspects of the first, but has aspects of the mythological baku (believed to be part of the basis for Drowzee and the Munna line) worked in: tusks, stripes, and a curved trunk. It also has a dream catcher built around what used to be its pendulum, which seemed the most logical way to develop that aspect; a dream eater wants to capture dreams.

The third concept also has baku aspects, but has more aspects of a tribal hunter, including a significantly larger dream catcher. It also has bigger ears for listening for dreams (like the BFG), and, like Hypno, it walks on its tiptoes. It doesn't have stripes on its body, but its shorts have Growlithe/Arcanine stripes on them (don't ask where they came from, just don't).

Advice and constructive criticism welcomed! Art theft is NOT welcomed, but if you want to use any of these designs for anything, please ask!

Okay, so. We've had two urns so far since I first announced that the hand-drawn comic Kakuna Wars was going to be a thing. But sometime during the second urn, my scanner broke.

This does not mean that Kakuna Wars is cancelled; however, it does mean that a change in tactics is going to be required. As you may have noticed, the reason I switched from screencap comics is because there just aren't enough screencaps in the world to depict what it is I'm trying to depict. Therefore, to enjoy the hopefully riveting storyline I have planned for Kakuna Wars, the whole lot of you are going to have to read words.

Lots and lots of words.

Each chapter of Kakuna Wars will still be posted on DeviantART, as that is where The Gatekeepers has been hosted and it's only fair for me to keep all of my Anniversary Red lore in the same place. And, yes, I'm still at work trying to balance the several other lore projects I've been working on all at the same time, so there's that. BUT... Kakuna Wars chronologically takes place before all that (well, except for my somewhat squicky Red, Gold, and Green spin-off in which the protagonist is physically worse off than CanisAries' edgy Red, and that's all I can say without having to tag this post for mature audiences), so my priority is to finally, FINALLY, catch up with myself on Anniversary Red lore.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go do a thing.

Actually, I've been on here for a while on my KateVunza account, but I recently got locked out of it because I forgot my password AND lost my e-mail account (literally, it no longer exists due to inactivity), so I had to start afresh.

But thank you! I DO like it here!
