Literature Text

A mob ain’t no justice,
A riot ain’t no peace,
A lynch mob ain’t no righteous “Racist Police.”

If you want to spread tolerance,
Stop spreading hate;
If you want to have justice,
Get your facts straight.

Don’t publish a tale
Without knowing the facts;
Loose lips can sink ships
And give others the axe.

“Hands up” means “co-operate,”
Not “punch a cop;”
And don’t start a fight
That you can’t really stop.

Our roads are for everyone–
Don’t be a hog;
Protest with respect
And don’t act like a dog.

Both sides are not perfect–
But we CAN agree
When both ask for truth
About “US,” not just “ME.”

You can’t have “equality”
Unless WE do too;
Even the ones
Who have “done things to you.”

If you want respect,
Be respectful as well;
Let’s meet on the high road,
Not “see you in hell.”
Update journal on the more recent reports on the Ferguson police department: eurekatrollcat.deviantart.com/…

Just something I wrote today due to being frustrated about all the hatred going around, especially at the media who threw this whole thing out of control. There's no actual evidence that the shooting itself was race-based, yet people just assume it because the Darren was white and Mike was, well, brown.

And yet two years ago a WHITE teen named Gilbert Collar was shot by a BLACK cop named Trevis Austin -- www.washingtontimes.com/news/2… -- there was very little media outrage about it, and certainly no violent riots.

Now, I'm not saying that the two cases are exactly the same, on account that each and every police case (and person, for that matter) is individual. And I'm certainly not saying that racist cops don't exist at all (particularly as recent investigations showed that Ferguson does indeed have a racist police department on the whole). But out of all the situations they could have chosen to riot about, somehow the real ones get swept under the rug while the deeply questionable ones are getting all the media attention.

As a "white" person, I've never understood why it's called "white privilege" when being treated decently ought to be a RIGHT, not a "privilege." Calling it a "privilege" to those who have it and a "right" for those who DON'T have it... is hypocrisy. Or, at the very least, very poor wording. I want us ALL to have basic RIGHTS, not focus jealously on calling rights"privileges" as if someone ought to be able to take them away.

And for those who believe that the trial was rigged, legal scholars have said that that's simply not the case: www.washingtontimes.com/news/2…

Well, God bless you all!

Using an incident were a white guy was shot by a black cop doesn't prove anything. This is a way to derail what people are saying.

You also don't know how a protest works, especially when it comes to with civil rights.

For many people, this isn't simply about blowing off steam, it's about survival. For the most part, the African American community live in fear of the police. Many have been victims of police brutality, simply for looking a certain way.

But of course, we as white people don't experience it, so they must be exaggerating right? You see? That's what people are talking about when they say we have white privilege. We don't have to worry about being beaten up by those who are supposed to protect us.

Something you won't get taught is school. Things like racism aren't just conscious hatred, they're systematic. It's in the media we consume, in the class system (it's no coincidence that most poor people are people of colour), in education, in the job market, all of this feeds into our subconscious hatred for people of colour, especially black people.
